Welcome back to The Slice!
It’s almost Easter (even though it feels like January was just yesterday). That means it’s time to eat as much chocolate as you can and hope that the British weather behaves itself (just a bit of sun… please?).
To help you make the most of the four day weekend, we’ve put together a round up of the best Easter treats, because everyone deserves a treat once in a while. We’ve got ice cream filled hot cross buns, adorable bunny-themed baos, and an ultra-indulgent white chocolate and salted caramel scotch egg.
You could also get inspired by these foodie spots, perfect for chatting the night away with friends you haven’t see in a while this Easter. Read about colourful sushi at Chotto Matte and Brompton Road’s Alba, where the food is impressive but the toilets are something else.
Read on for a whole range of recommendations for April 18-21, handpicked as always byThe Slice.

This week in London
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, here are 10 of the best activities, dining, and drinking spots in the capital.
1. Try Chotto Matte’s Signature Sharing Menu
By Anushka Suharu
Fusing Japanese precision with Peruvian flair, Chotto Matte’s Signature Sharing Menu is a colourful journey through raw, hot and indulgent dishes — ideal for those who want to try a bit of everything.
Our favourites were the Sato Maki — delicate sea bass and salmon tartare wrapped in smoky pepper and Chotto soy; and the Pollo Anticucho — served with coriander causa and aji amarillo, delivering a deep, smoky flavour.
The true highlight, though, is dessert: the Kuro Goma Ice Cream is rich, nutty and utterly moreish.
If you visit on a Buena Vibra Thursday, be prepared as the dining room shifts gears — Código Tequila cocktails in hand, guests sway to Latin beats as DJs and live entertainment turn dinner into something electric. A feast for all the senses.
Signature sharing menu, £80pp. 11-13 Frith St, Soho, W1D 4RB. Book here.
2. Learn how to make the perfect summer drink, The Paloma
There’s still time to sign up to a FREE cocktail making masterclass at The Bar At Home this month.
Look forward to a welcome drink and a masterclass led by the experts, where you’ll get to make your own Paloma serve. Every Thurs-Sun until 27 April. Book here.
3. Get a Metro exclusive £10 Uber discount to help you get home safely this April
It’s the perfect time to go out late and enjoy yourself. But to make getting home that little bit easier, Strut Safe and Uber have launched a £10 discount code on rides across the UK to help out anyone who feels unsafe travelling home.
The code is ‘RDHREDVZPRC’, and can be redeemed once for a £10 off fare, exclusive to readers of The Slice for a limited time. Available (8pm – 6am) this month.
4. Indulge in these tasty treats this Easter
Easter steamed buns
Best for: if you’re over hot cross buns
If you’re already all hot cross bun’d out, you’ll be happy to know that a selection of Chinese steamed buns have landed just in time for Spring! Beautifully decorated, the bunny, chick, lamb and cow buns have different fun flavours as part of the Easter Farmyard collection.
The sheep and bunny are black sesame flavoured while the cow and lamb are filled with egg yolk custard. Yum!
£7.99 for one or £14.99 for two. Xi Home Dumplings, Blossom Street, Spitalfields. Available to pre-order and collect in store from 1-20 April.
Hot Cross Bun Ice Cream Sandwiches
Best for: hot cross buns on another level
The hot cross bun meets ice cream at The Ned this Easter. And hey, maybe it’s about time the hot cross bun got an update.
Michelin-trained Executive Pastry Chef Darian Smidt has crafted up three flavours: the Traditional Hot Cross Bun, with double-fold vanilla ice cream and indulgent dulce de leche; the Chocolate Hot Cross Bun, with brookies & cream ice cream and rich chocolate ganache; and the Raspberry Hot Cross Bun, with cherrymisu ice cream and raspberry jelly.
£7-8. The Electric Diner at The Ned, 27 Poultry, City of London. Book here.
Chocolate scotch egg
Best for: a bougie version of a Cadbury creme egg
The Mayfair Chippy egg-ceptional scotch egg isn’t just any scotch egg. The British classic has a twist… it’s all made with chocolate. It’s got a silky white chocolate ‘yolk’, a gooey salted caramel centre, and it’s all pulled together by a crispy chocolate shell.
Other delights include good old fried cod and haddock, a lobster and crayfish roll, and apple and blackberry crumble.
Chocolate scotch egg, £8.50. Knightsbridge and Mayfair. Available from 18-21 April. Book here.
5. Top Cuvée’s Easter Egg Hunt
Top Cuvée’s Easter Egg Hunt begins on 20 April, and it’s set to be a real chocolate-y challenge. This year, expect (over £20k worth of) prizes from Tony’s Chocolonely and Twisted Food, as well as some epic challenges. The fun starts at Top Cuvée’s Highbury Shop. Sign up to join here.
6. Have a multisensory experience at Pepsi
A FREE multisensory experience lands this week. Taking place at Future Stores, Sweet Room by Pepsi will take the fizzy drink-obsessed on a sweet escape. There are chances to win unique prices at The Token Dispenser, a Selfie Booth and plenty more fun.
16-20 April. Future Stores, Oxford Street. Find out more here.
7. Try Greek and Spanish plates at new North London spot PYRÁ
By Lola Christina Alao
PYRÁ is the latest addition to one of London’s quaintest little streets, Lonsdale Road in Queen’s Park. It joins other cool spots like Milk Beach, Don’t Tell Dad and Pizza Pilgrims… and it fits right in. I feel like I’m in Brighton.
The fusion of Spanish and Greek cuisine at PYRÁ means that it’s only right to have a menu of sharing dishes, and you get the best of each cuisine. Take the Greek salad, with bold and lemony feta cheese and chunky nuggets of green pepper and tomato.
But what lured me in and didn’t let go were the lamb cutlets – with meat that falls right off the bone and a moreish harissa-spiced yoghurt complemeted by pops of sweet pomegranate.
My final bite was the Basque cheesecake – though the texture is slightly grainy, the sourness from the cherries on top hits just right. With a terrace of dreams, complete with artsy cushions and greenery, I have a feeling you’ll struggle to get a table here once summer hits.
Small plates from £7. Single plates from £18. 6A-8A Lonsdale Road, Queen’s Park, NW6 6RD. Book here.
You can also try PYRÃ for breakfast. The Breakfast Club (a sober event) takes place on the first weekend of every month on a Saturday or Sunday. The main restaurant is transformed into a DJ booth and coffee, matcha, fresh smoothies, and Greek yogurt berry pots are served up.
8. Eat sun-kissed flavours at Alba
By Kitty Chrisp
I always think you can tell the vibe of a restaurant from its toilets… Alba’s have self-cleaning heated seats. This is, hands down, the most over-the-top restaurant I’ve ever been to. With a view right into the glitzy Harrods windows, it’s all about the experience of dining somewhere Capri-style outrageous.
Truffle is treated here as grated parmesan is in most Italian restaurants — liberally. Creamy smooth burrata? Chuck some truffle on it. Pizza? Yeah, why not. Don’t be alarmed if a trolley is wheeled up to your table – smashing up a salty fish or making your beef tartare in situ is kind of their thing. If you go for anything, make it the tiramisu panettone. It’s divine, silky, caffeinated, indulgence. Just make sure you go after pay day…
Expect to pay £25+ per dish. Alba London, 70 Brompton Road, SW3 1ER. Book here.
9. Get 50% off at all day dining spot Ara
All-day dining spot Ara has just launched in Aldgate East, serving up a range of sweet and savoury dishes with a focus on environmental thoughtfulness.
Dishes that caught our eye include potato flatbread benedict with vadouvan spiced hollandaise, and lamb skewer with red zough and pico de gallo.
Get 50% off of both of these dishes and more as part of their soft launch! Just visit between 15-30 April. Book here.
10. Pretend you’re in France at French bistro Josephine
The second branch of charming French bistro, Josephine, opens up in Marylebone on 24 April.
